To some of you he might be known as the world famous graffiti artist but certainly not everyone knows about Banksy although they definately should. Banksy’s work takes us far beyond the borders of traditional art or even graffiti. His work consists primarily of using a stencil key set to quickly spray his works on public places.
Although not much is known about Banksy (his real identity remains as of today still unknown, which truely adds an extra touch to watching his works), it is generally thought that his real name is something along the lines of Robert Banks and he is supposed to have been born in Bristol. He is also known to do things that are even more controversial. A good example:
Most governments consider his art a form of crime because he spraypaints public areas. However, Banksy has gotten a reputation and his works are seldomly removed instantly. The above piece however nearly cost him his head because he placed this piece right opposite of an FBI office, unkowingly ofcourse.
Banksy is definately not a traditional artist and his works often contain a (political) message. He is truely an inspiring artist that hopefully shows us many many more in the upcoming years.
